# AI Credits

> Understand how AI credits work, how many you get each month, and how to top up when you need more.

## Overview

AI credits are consumed whenever Periskope runs an AI model on your behalf. They are separate from broadcast credits, which only cover bulk message sends.

The following features draw from your AI credit balance:

* **AI Agent** — automated replies, tool calls and agent runs
* **AI Assistant** — the in-chat assistant that drafts and summarizes
* **Workspace Assistant** — questions you ask about your workspace data
* **AI functions** — AI-powered actions used inside automation rules
* **Agent training** — self-training runs over your past conversations

## Monthly Credits

* You receive **5,000 AI credits per user + additional phone** in your workspace every month
* You do not receive credits for the first free phone in your workspace
* Credits reset on your monthly billing date
* On a yearly plan, the full year's allowance is granted upfront at the start of the billing cycle

**Example:** If you have 5 users, you receive 25,000 AI credits per month.

You can track your balance and consumption at any time under `AI > Credit Usage`.

  Recurring AI credits are included on the **Pro** plan. Starter plans do not receive a monthly AI allowance and can use AI features through topup credits.

New workspaces start with **1,000 free AI credits** during the free trial so you can try AI features before subscribing.

## How Usage Is Measured

Credits are charged on the amount of text the model reads and writes for each request, so a short reply costs a fraction of a credit while a long conversation with lots of context costs more.

A few things that affect how quickly credits are used:

* Longer chat histories and larger knowledge bases mean more context per request
* Longer AI responses cost more than short ones
* Repeated context within a conversation is charged at a heavily reduced rate

## Topup Credits

If you run out of monthly credits, you can purchase additional topup credits.

* Navigate to `Settings > Manage Plans > Topup Credits`
* AI credits are sold in packs of **10,000 credits**
* Topup credits never expire and roll over to the next month

  Monthly credits are always used first before consuming any topup credits you've purchased.

## Running Out of Credits

When your balance reaches zero, AI features stop responding until credits are added. Everything else in Periskope — chats, tickets, bulk messages, automation rules that don't use AI — continues to work as normal.

To restore AI features, either purchase a topup pack or wait for your monthly credits to reset on your billing date.
